The goal was not to lose the natural shape of the breast after surgery by designing implants to look like a tear drop, thicker at the bottom and tapered towards the top. To maintain this natural shape, the silicone gel in the implant is more firmer than the gel found in a normal round implant. As apart of the clinical testing of the product, even when the implant was cut into half, it still retained its normal shape. These types of implants are generally referred to as ‘gummy bear implants’.
These type of stable implants offer an additional option for women desiring breast augmentation surgery who are specific to retaining the natural shape of the breast after surgery.

The Advantages:
One of the advantages of form stable implants is that they match the shape of the natural breast, giving more fullness to the bottom of the breast. Comprised of a stiffer gel, less wrinkling of the implant is anticipated, and some women desire that additional firmness of the implant. Finally, because they are all textured, there is some evidence to suggest that the patient’s risk of developing a capsular contracture around the implant could be lessened by as much as 69%.
The Disadvantages:
Disadvantages include potential rotation of the implant in which case the thicker part of the implant can distort the breast’s shape. Because the gel is thicker, a slightly longer incision to insert them is often necessary. Thought the insertion of the implant is more often under the breast, the scar is still hidden in the natural crease of the breast.
