How to Choose a Rhinoplasty Surgeon (A Practical Checklist)

Medically reviewed by Mr Taimur Shoaib, FRCS (Plast) — Consultant Plastic Surgeon, GMC No. 3615443 · Last reviewed: 4 June 2026

Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically demanding operations in plastic surgery, and it has one of the highest revision rates. The single biggest factor in your result — and in avoiding the cost and difficulty of a revision later — is the surgeon you choose. Here is what to actually check.

1. Verify the credentials yourself

In the UK, confirm the surgeon is on the GMC Specialist Register for plastic surgery — you can search the GMC register directly. Membership of bodies such as BAAPS and ISAPS signals recognised standards. Mr Taimur Shoaib is on the GMC Specialist Register and a member of BAAPS and ISAPS.

2. Look for genuine rhinoplasty specialisation

A surgeon who performs rhinoplasty regularly — not occasionally — has the case volume and judgement this operation demands. Ask how often they perform it, and whether they handle both primary and revision cases.

3. Study the before-and-after evidence properly

Ask to see a large, varied gallery of that surgeon’s own patients — not stock images — including noses similar to yours. Consistent, natural results across many cases tell you far more than one or two perfect photos.

4. Expect honesty, not a hard sell

A good surgeon tells you what rhinoplasty can and cannot achieve for your nose, and will sometimes advise against surgery or suggest a non-surgical option. Pressure, guarantees of perfection, or vague answers are red flags.

5. Understand what’s included

Transparent, fixed pricing that includes aftercare protects you from surprises. Be cautious of quotes covering only the surgeon’s fee, with theatre, anaesthesia and follow-up billed on top. See our rhinoplasty cost guide for what an all-inclusive price looks like.

Red flags to avoid

No verifiable specialist registration; reluctance to show their own before-and-afters; pressure to book quickly; promises of a perfect or risk-free result; pricing that hides the true total. Learn more about choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon in London or rhinoplasty at Berkeley Square Medical.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check a rhinoplasty surgeon’s qualifications in the UK?

Search the GMC Specialist Register to confirm they are a registered specialist in plastic surgery, and look for membership of BAAPS and ISAPS.

What should I look for in a surgeon’s before-and-after photos?

A large, varied gallery of the surgeon’s own patients, including cases similar to yours, with natural and consistent results — not just one or two flawless examples.

Should I choose a rhinoplasty surgeon based on price?

Price should not be the deciding factor. Rhinoplasty has a high revision rate, and the cost of correcting a poor result usually outweighs any saving. Prioritise experience and specialisation.

What are the warning signs of the wrong surgeon?

Unverifiable credentials, no own-patient before-and-afters, pressure to book, guarantees of perfection, and pricing that hides theatre, anaesthesia or aftercare costs.
